A band based on the duo of Norwegian tubaist Kristoffer Lo and Swedish drummer Tomas Järmyr, expanded with the Belgian guitarist Dirk Serries. Leaving their individual roles and instruments behind, YODOK III is organic, thematic and dynamic, founded on intense focus and patience. Slow, but sometimes highly energetic and frenetic in it’s appearance.
The band started out playing modern free jazz but the addition of bigger drums, more electronics and bigger amps changed the sound and dynamic range dramatically. Though it ́s still improvised music, the inspiration now came from doom, noise, sludge and drone music, and bands such as SUNN O))), Cult of Luna, Earth and Fear Falls Burning had a great impact on the evolvement of Yodok.
Today Yodok stands on a solid foundation where the music reflects an extensive musical background, remarkable musicianship, and the never ending strive to break musical boundaries.
Kristoffer Lo is a unique tuba player. He ́s turned the instrument into something far beyond what you could expect from an acoustic horn. By heavy amplification of the tuba, a bunch of effect pedals and extended techniques on the acoustic instrument, he ́s managed to add a new and distinct personal sound to modern improvised music.
Tomas Järmyr moved from Sweden to Norway in 2008 and has since then spread total chaos among most musicians he ́s played with. With an energy, technique and musicality like few others he has made a great impression on both the audience and fellow musicians. His presence in the music is so intense it ́s hard not to get mesmerized.
Dirk Serries has since the early 80 ́s created electronic, ambient and drone music, and he ́s considered a pioneer within the field. He is the creative force behind vidnaObmana (1984-2005), Fear Falls Burning (2005-2012), and is now in the spotlight with his latest creation; Microphonics. http://www.microphonics.be
