Drummer Paal Nilssen-Love has been one of the central figures on the Norwegian and international jazz scene for decades now. He is known as a unique free improviser, with collaborations ranging from Peter Brötzmann to Ken Vandermark, as well as inside of his own band, PNL Large Unit. In later years, the deep inspiration from music scenes such as Brazil and Ethiopia has become more evident in his music, and things being what they are, this year’s festival was a nice opportunity for him to present a new band, consisting of some of the most exciting players on the Norwegian scene. Joining him on stage are guitarist Oddrun Lilja, bass player Christian Meaas Svendsen, trumpet player Thomas Johansson, saxophonist Signe Emmeluth, accordionist Kalle Moberg and singer Juliana Venter. It will be a concert filled with musical discovery and infectious rhythms.
