MAXIM STARCKE (Sør Afrika)

Maxim Starcke, born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, is a multi-instrumentalist and composer currently experimenting with improvisation, subtle electronica and soundscape composition. Over the years Max has performed extensively (on saxophones, electric bass and/or classical/electric guitars) with many South African bands, touring- and recording projects of varying genres including memorable experiences with world music/rock collective Starkravingsane; Jazz singer Lisa Bauer; On The Edge Of Wrong festival of improvised music with Morten Minothi Kristiansen, Øyvind Skarbø, MotSol and others; thrash/death metal band Damnatia; eclectic Indian Classical Music meets modal jazz group LMR Trio; afro-pop band Hot Water; electro-pop trio Nightlife Conspiracy and afro-funk-punk legends Alan Funk, amongst others. Recently he appeared playing classical guitar on the Lisa Bauer Quartet’s *Finding A New Way* album which was nominated for a South African Music Award for best traditional Jazz album of 2010 and performed with her band at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival 2011.
