Martin Nodeland Quartet featuring Will Vinson

Besetningen er Martin Nodeland, Will Vinson, Alexander Hoholm, Raymond Storaunet Lavik og Martin Sandvik Gjerde. Den samme besetningen som i 2019 spilte inn “Debut”. Nå fire år senere møtes de igjen, med nytt materiale i oppkjøring til ny album-innspilling.

«Martin Nodeland (b. 1993) is a Norwegian guitarist, composer and arranger whose first recording as leader, Debut (2019), was a confident and intricate neo-bop quintet playing original music, and a couple of standards. Only a year later and with Origins (2020) he released an ambitious album of all originals performed by an eleven-piece ensemble». Julian Maynard-Smith (London Jazz News)

As a soloist Nodeland has guested ensembles such as OJKOS and Ensemble Ernst. As a leader, and a sought after side man, he has played, collaborated and recorded with a wide array of jazz heavy hitters like Will Vinson, Nduduzo Makhathini, Tore Brunborg, Ole Morten Vågan, Olga Konkova, Atle Nymo, Petter Wettre, Live Marie Roggen, Hanna Paulsberg and Gianni Gagliardi.

Featuring: Will Vinson

Originally from London, Alto Saxophonist/Composer Will Vinson has made his career in New York City and the world. Since his arrival in NYC, he has appeared and/or recorded with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ari Hoenig, Jonathan Kreisberg, Marcus Gilmore, Chris Potter, Kurt Elling, Lage Lund, Aaron Parks, Mike Moreno, Jeff Ballard, Orlando le Fleming, Shai Maestro and many others.

Over the course of many years, Will Vinson has been hailed by critics and listeners alike. His saxophone playing is executed with incredible power and dramatic sensitivity, and is characterized by his imposing sound and technique; influenced by saxophonists from Cannonball to Chris Potter, he nevertheless brings his own unique approach to every performance. Will’s writing, and the playing of his colleagues, combines a great respect for the century-long jazz tradition with explorations into the rhythmic, harmonic and melodic realms of contemporary forms.
