Om utgivelsen
The Sequential Stream album was developed over time from its initial start when Arve Henriksen heard and and spontaneously responded to Kjetil Husebø`s track Reflection (Piano Transformed, 2017). This was the starting point of the collaboration and also became the track 3 Seeding on Sequential Stream. Further, Arve and Kjetil worked in their separate studios in Gothenburg, Sweden and Oslo, Norway in 2019 and early 2020. They sent audio files to each other and developed the material for the rest of the album.
The music is beautiful, mysterious and thoughtful. Although the trumpet and piano are a common thread throughout the album, there is also a lot of live sampling, samples, synthesizers and effects that dominate the soundscape and production. Electronic processing of both trumpet and piano is used as reinforcing elements. Key words of the music are jazz, ambient, folk music, contemporary music.
Arve Henriksen (Supersilent, David Sylvian, Fennesz, Tigran Hamasyan, Bill Frisell, Laurie Anderson, etc) is a unique Norwegian trumpeter whose flute-like sound was inspired by the Japanese shakuhachi flute. His disography is very extensive.
– I came across Kjetil ́s work on his records Skyggespill – Morphing Between Spaces and Phases and Piano Transformed and got fascinated by his melodic sense and his ability of merging between acoustic and electronic sounds in his playing. I later got the chance to hear him live in Oslo at his festival Tape to Zero where he played his Piano Transformed set up. Exciting and inspiring.
Kjetil Husebø (Piano Transformed, Skyggespill, Optical Substance, Erot, etc) is a Norwegian keyboard player and sampling / electronics engineer. As a pianist and performer of electronic music,
Kjetil has worked continuously to perfect the musical unification of the grand piano and live sampling/ live electronics.
– I have been a fan of Arve since I first heard him playing with the band Veslefrekk at Vossajazz, Norway in 1995. Since then I have listened a lot to his strong and unique musical expression. We both have in common that we work with both organic and electronic soundscapes, instruments and like to experiment with crossover generes.

«An absolute stunner from Arve Henriksen & Kjetil Husebø – one of the best things we’ve heard this year. (…) Like a fever-dream comedown, it takes us from insanely rich sounding 4th world topographies to fizzing, electric ambience and fluttering prepared piano, perfectly soundtracking the humid un-reality we’re living through. (…)”Properly transcendent deep-dream jazz fantasy from prolific trumpet virtuoso Arve Henriksen (Supersilent) and Norwegian pianist Kjetil Husebø, together shaping an album that’s much, much more than the not so inconsiderable sum of its parts. Like a fever-dream comedown, it takes us from insanely rich sounding 4th world topographies to fizzing, electric ambience and fluttering prepared piano, perfectly soundtracking the humid un-reality we’re living through.(…) Sequential Stream’ presents us with something of a paradox – it feels like Henriksen’s most approachable work in years, but also his most complex and multi-faceted.” Boomkat
«Det er dybde og lag i materialet og sterke stemningsskifter som farger inntrykket. Musikken har nærmest noe hypnotiserende ved seg når den er på sitt beste, og det er den mange steder. (…) Det som overrasker og imponerer meg, er hvordan Henriksen og Husebø klarer å få disse kjente og kjære stilmønstrene sine til å smake av ferskvare og åpne seg på nye og givende måter.» Arild R. Andersen, Jazzinorge.no
«Det er en spennende, utfordrende og ekstremt givende utgivelse å lytte til» Stereopluss
“This is a striking pairing of musicianship with technology at every level, and a striking pairing of two musicians who long admired each other.” Utility Fog
“One of 2022’s finest.” The Slow Music Movement
“the patient and balanced dynamics of Henriksen and Husebø feel organic as if they have been playing together for years and recorded Sequential Stream in the same space. (…) this impressive album ends with a lighter touch, the subtle and most beautiful (and aptly-titled) «Serendipity», which already calls for more of this right stuff.” Eyal Hareuveni, Salt peanuts
«Musikken er både vakker og annerledes». Geir Rakvaag, Dagsavisen
«Att de en dag skulle göra en skiva ihop känns nu i efterhand fullständigt självklart. (…) Skivan har en lite ljusare stämning än många av de andra som Arve Henriksen gett ut, och når ut som en hoppfull bön från den mörka pandemin.» Lira Musikmagasin
«It is a record that stimulates the senses. Avant garde and abstract elements alternate sound capes, dreamy trumpet and synth lines (Syntax) in a spherical setting that could serve as a soundtrack for a science fiction film, such as the futuristic Sonic Binoculars and the fantasy-like Serendipity, while the ‘broken ‘ keys in Slow Fragments evoke melancholy images. At the same time, the Eastern sounds of Henriksen’s playing emerge in the introverted Seeding. Listen to the record with headphones, a new dimension comes to life.» Jazzism
