David Lindley + Koshka

Dokkhuset Scene / Dokkhuset
Trondheim

Multi-instrumentalist David Lindley performs music that redefines the word «eclectic.» Lindley, well known for his many years as the featured accompanist with Jackson Browne, and leader of his own band El Rayo-X, has long championed the concept of world music.

The David Lindley electro-acoustic performance effortlessly combines American folk, blues, and bluegrass traditions with elements from African, Arabic, Asian, Celtic, Malagasy, and Turkish musical sources. Lindley incorporates an incredible array of stringed instruments including but not limited to Kona and Weissenborn Hawaiian lap steel guitar, Turkish saz and chumbus, Middle Eastern oud, and Irish bouzouki.

Koshka are a multi-national trio with an equally multifaceted range of musical backgrounds. Guitarist Nigel Clark, once of Hue & Cry, is the native Glaswegian, and is best known as a jazz musician, whether leading his own bands or working with Carol Kidd and the Scottish Guitar Quartet, among many others.

Violinist Oleg Ponomarev is from Habarovsk in Russia, and first grabbed attention in these parts as a member of the explosive gypsy-folk outfit Loyko. Violinist Lev Atlas is also from Russia, and has a distinguished track record in classical music – including the Rostov String Quartet, Rachmaninov Trio and currently the Orchestra of Scottish Opera – as well as a passion for Klezmer and eastern European folk music.

That combination has given Koshka’s music its distinctive sound when playing authentic gypsy music.
