Trøen/Arnesen Quartet
New Paintings of Jazz

Om utgivelsen

Here are two lovely Norwegian words that typify this tremendously pleasing album. Samspill and Felleskap.

Samspill, meaning ‘interplay’ or ‘playing together’ is evident in every note. This isn’t just a collection of talented individuals; it’s a unified force where each musician’s sensitivity and creativity weave seamlessly with the others. The intricate dialogues, the shared breaths between phrases, and the collective ebb and flow demonstrate a deep understanding and respect for the music and for each other.

And that shared spirit, that sense of community, is the essence of felleskap. New Paintings of Jazz is a celebration of collaborative artistry, where individual brilliance contributes to a collective beauty.

Credentials? There are many. The Trøen/Arnesen band has existed since 2017 and in 2021 they released their debut album Tread Lightly, also on Losen Records. Their appearances at festivals and concerts are simply too numerous to list here. All four highly educated musicians have consistently worked with both local and internationally-renowned artists thereby solidifying their impressive musical pedigrees.

The skilfully crafted compositions are emotionally resonant. From Early Morning Song featuring a truly sympathetic solo from Ole Marius to Modalen with rhythmic mastery from Sigurd. The pieces flow together seamlessly, creating a cohesive and well-rounded experience. Interlude for A has the feel of a mini suite and includes immaculate solos from Dag and Elisabeth.

And so, prepare to be captivated by this immersive sound experience that truly showcases Bergen at its best. This is more than just timeless music; it’s an experience of harmonious connection and artistic brilliance.
