Om utgivelsen
Duos are conversations. Perhaps more than any musical constellation, they are conversations equaled to sharing a glass of wine or a cup of coffee over a kitchen table.
As listeners we follow the interconnected lines; the train of thought; the arguments and counterarguments. Musical utterances are clear in a duo setting. Even when sonically dense, busy, or crowded with simultaneous speech, the lines are perfectly audible; we can hear the dance, it’s logic to our ears.
Of course, it helps knowing each other well, being able to finish each other
sentences; mutual respect, but daring to speak up, no over-politeness.
Two friends, two instruments, different in character, but also complementing,
filling the space with just the right amount of stuff. Adding to the duo discography of Steve Lacy/Mal Waldron, Evan Parker/Stan Tracey, Anthony Braxton/Muhal
Richard Abrams – different times, different places, different people – this album expands on these conversations between reeds and keys.
Whilst leaning on the ghost of duos past, Yttredal/Herstad add their unique spin; their own thoughts, their own sound; setting up a new conversation for us to enjoy over a glass of wine or cup of coffee over a kitchen table.
