Andvake is an old Norwegian word of Norse origin with multiple meanings. It can be translated as insomnia, but it also indicates a state of wake, characterized by extreme attention and vigilance.
When I started thinking about this project, I was willing to shape some music inspired by the notion of contrast: texture and gesture, sparse and dense, order and chaos. I wanted to write compositions that served this purpose, while allowing freedom of interpretation to the musicians. I am deeply grateful to Øyvind, Oskar, Erlend and Markus for helping me shape the sounds in my head. Their active involvement and musicianship are a fundamental part of this work.
