Zanussi 3
A Keen Beast

Om utgivelsen

Per Zanussi has been an active part of the Norwegian jazz scene for over 25 years, known for being one of the best bass players and band leaders in the country – especially through his work with the internationally acclaimed Zanussi 5. Zanussi 3 is a new step with the same foundation. A new trio with ties to Z5, and their heads turned towards new musical horizons.

The trio consists of Zanussi on bass, Per Oddvar Johansen on drums, and Kristoffer Alberts on saxophones – all living legends on the jazz scene and improvisers as good as they come. Johansen has been a creative force and partner since the beginning of Zanussi 5, and in Zanussi 3 they develop their combined expression further and into new directions.

The compositions get inspirations from Zanussi’s earlier projects, and also from his works with non-Western traditions, for example Korean traditional folk music. The trio plays with well established jazz norms, with complex compositions interpreted with freedom, curiosity and deep musicality as the result.
