Classic meets Jazz

Columbus Concerts GmbH /
Lillehammer

Founded in 2009, the Berliner Camerata stands for music of the finest calibre. The ensemble has achieved a high level of artistic excellence without the help of subsidies, raising its standards year after year. The Berliner Camerata is one of the most sought- after chamber orchestras in Berlin. Every member of this international orchestra is distinguished by their musical excellence, team spirit, spontaneity and a joy of music that breaks the boundaries of classical routine. Thanks to its flexible structure, the ensemble is able to interpret a rich and diverse repertoire, including chamber and symphonic music, premieres of contemporary music and cross-over projects. The Berliner Camerata has firmly established its place in classical music with its own concert series in Berlin (Philharmonie), Hamburg (Laeiszhalle) and Leipzig (Gewandhaus). The ensemble also organises the Berliner Klassik & Jazz Sommer festival, undertakes world tours and regularly collaborates with renowned artists such as Yorck Kronenberg, Avi Avital, Valer Barna Sabadus, Yury Revich, Guy Braunstein, Sebastian Studnitzky, Giuliano Sommerhalder and Johannes Schlaefli.

“The Berliner Camerata entrances with their tonal clarity and the joy of music they reflect.” Klassik-Heute

“Delicate ornamentation: violinist Olga Park and the Berliner Camerata impressed … with their finely-tuned coordination and relentless stamina in the Chamber Music Hall of the Philharmonic, the ensemble and soloist performing as one and evoking the mood of the period. The Berliner Camerata operates without public funding; all the more pleasing that instead of relying on garish flourishes, the ensemble focuses on meticulous rehearsals and a performance approach developed entirely from the compositions.”

STUDNITZKY has always been a traveller between the realms of jazz, classical and electronic music. With “MEMENTO – orchestral experience” he presents his multifaceted and stylistically open nature with entrancing succinctness.
Accompanied by a string quartett or a chamber orchestra, he celebrates a fascinating and emotional journey on trumpet and piano. In his inimitable music not a single note is superfluous. It is detailed, minimalistic and transparent, yet it displays an emotional depth which is uniquely personal. With this distinctive sound, STUDNITZKY stands pleasantly apart from the typical classical/jazz crossover style. Too edgy for pop, too emotional for jazz, too opulent for electronic music, and with a rhythmic groove far removed from avant-garde, he has created something that is refreshingly new.

“Sebastian Studnitzky is a sound aesthete … You find yourself wanting more of this tranquil and unpretentious chamber music.” Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

STUDNITZKY is already an internationally acclaimed performer of the highest level on both trumpet and piano. Few instrumentalists of his generation have appeared on the stages of so many clubs and festivals all over the world. He has performed with names such as Nils Landgren’s Funk Unit, Jazzanova, Mezzoforte and Wolfgang Haffner. Most recently, he can be heard on recordings by Nils Landgren’s Funk Unit, Jazzanova, Wolfgang Haffner, Nightmares On Wax, Moritz von Oswald, Mezzoforte and Dominic Miller. In 2012 he founded Contemplate, his own record label and network. In 2014 he initiated the XJAZZ Festival Berlin and took charge as its musical director. It immediately became Berlin’s largest jazz festival and turned the German jazz scene on its head. Since September 2014 Sebastian Studnitzky has been a professor at the Dresden University of Music. The German music association Bundesverband Musikindustrie honoured him with the ECHO Jazz 2015.
